How to set your custom domain

Written by Domonkos Horváth

Using your own domain for CamBuildr makes all of your pages look more professional. CamBuildr supports custom domains at three different levels, depending on what you want to brand:

  • Your whole organization — one subdomain that hosts all of your CamBuildr pages.

  • A single campaign — a separate domain or path prefix for one specific campaign.

  • A single landing page — a dedicated domain pointing to just one page (set up by our team).

You can also combine these — for example, an organization-wide subdomain plus a separate domain for one high-profile campaign.

Option 1: A subdomain for your whole organization

This is the most common setup. All of your CamBuildr pages — landing pages, signup forms, and email links — will be served from your subdomain.

Your domain is in use elsewhere (home page, etc.), and you still want to use it for CamBuildr? Choose a subdomain of your domain. If your domain is domain.com, possible subdomains are participate.domain.com or secure.domain.com. You can get creative here.

To set it up:

  • In CamBuildr, click Organization in the bottom left-hand corner.

  • Enter your desired subdomain in the Custom Domain field.

  • You will be shown a CNAME record to set in your domain configuration tool. For an apex domain (one without a www. or other prefix), CamBuildr will also show an A record as a fallback.

  • After you've set the DNS record, CamBuildr verifies it automatically. While we wait, the setting shows a Pending validation status.

  • Once verification succeeds, you will receive an email confirming that your custom domain is active.

Option 2: A separate domain or path for a single campaign

Sometimes you want a campaign to stand on its own — a dedicated brand or a clean URL just for that initiative. Each CamBuildr campaign can have its own routing, independent of the organization-wide custom domain.

There are two modes:

  • Domain mode: attach a full domain or subdomain to the campaign (for example vote2026.domain.com or vote2026.com). All pages in that campaign will be served from that domain.

  • Path prefix mode: keep using your main domain but add a campaign-specific path, for example participate.domain.com/vote2026. Useful when you don't want to manage a separate domain.

To set it up:

  • Open the campaign you want to brand and click Edit domain.

  • Choose Domain or Path prefix mode and enter your value.

  • For Domain mode, set the CNAME (or A record for an apex domain) shown by CamBuildr. The campaign will be marked Pending validation until DNS resolves; you'll receive an email once it's active.

  • Optionally pick a home landing page — this is what visitors will see when they go to the root of your campaign URL.

  • If you are moving from a previous campaign domain, CamBuildr can automatically 301-redirect the old domain to the new one, so your existing links keep working.

Each campaign is independent — having a campaign domain does not require or change your organization-wide custom domain.

Option 3: A dedicated domain for a single landing page

If you want a domain to point to one specific landing page — for example a vanity URL for a petition or a one-page event site — please reach out to us. Our team can configure a dedicated domain that renders just that page.

This is also the right option if you want to use a domain solely for CamBuildr at the page level rather than at the organization or campaign level.
